How To Improve Your CRS Score in 2022

Canada Permanent Residency Made Simple.

Many of my clients get Permanent Residency in Canada through one of the programs managed in the Express Entry system. I typically begin our appointment by conducting a quick points calculation using the Express Entry Calculator to see what their CRS Express Entry score might be and check how competitive they are in the Express Entry pool.

Before applying for Express Entry, you must have a Selection Factor score of at least 67 out of a possible 100. Once you meet the minimum number of points, you will be ranked in the Express Entry pool using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

The CRS is a points-based system IRCC uses to determine how you rank in the respective category in comparison to other applicants in the pool.

The CRS points consist of a core set of points up to 600 and an additional set of points up to 600. Your total score will be out of a possible 1,200.

You must have a score higher than the minimum CRS points score for your round of invitations in order to be invited. I recommend aiming for a total CRS score of 480 or higher to have a good chance of being selected in the Express Entry pool for early 2022.

How To Get PR With a Low Score:

We understand that aiming for a high score on the CRS can be stressful and even discouraging. Let’s take a look at a few tips to boost a low score and help you feel more confident.

1. Apply through a Provincial Nominee Program.

Canada has ten (10) provinces, and each has its own provincial nominee programme aimed at attracting people to settle there based on their labour market needs. Obtaining a provincial nomination can provide you with 600 extra points in the Express Entry pool.

2. Improve your language test results.

Language ability is another area where minor enhancements can make a significant difference. Language proficiency can earn you up to 270 CRS points for a single candidate and 260 CRS points for a couple. The higher your language score, the higher your overall score and the likelihood of selection from the Express Entry pool. To improve your score, consider retaking your language tests or enrolling in language preparation classes.

3. Your Spouse affects your score.

In some cases, the main applicant will have a higher CRS score if their spouse is not included. In this case, we frequently advise the main applicant to include their partner as a "non-accompanying" partner/spouse. When the main applicant arrives in Canada and obtains Permanent Residency, they can then sponsor their non-accompanying partner for PR as well.

4. Come to Canada temporarily to work or study.

Canadian experience gained through work or study can have a significant impact on your overall CRS score and increase your chances of being invited to apply for permanent residency. This is an excellent opportunity for international students or skilled workers to become permanent residents of Canada.
