Which programs are available?
There are many programs available for those wishing to immigrate to Canada, however, we recognize that there are particular categories of applications that are more popular amongst those immigrating to Canada from India.
Study permit: This is by far the most popular program that applicants from India prefer in order to come to Canada. Our clients often either pursue a bachelor’s degree or the ever-popular post-graduate certificate programs. By doing so, they can ultimately access an open work permit which is a great way to eventually qualify for permanent residency.
Work permit: Another option for Indian nationals is to first come to Canada on a work permit. In order to qualify for a work permit, you will need to first obtain a job offer from an employer who will then be able to go through the LMIA processes on behalf of his new recruit. Once you’ve worked in Canada for 12 months in a NOC A, B or O skill level job full-time (or equivalent), we help transition you to permanent residency.
documents needed to apply for a study
or work permit:
The IRCC country checklists for these temporary permits will have the requirements listed for Indians applicants, these include documents such as passport, proof of education, prior work experience, and other documents to show that you are eligible. We've included some helpful pointers on what else to include in the application:
Medical exams for Indian nationals are required for temporary permit applications as well as permanent residency applications when applying from India.
PCCs from India are required for both temporary and permanent applications, the police clearance should be issued 6 months before you apply for your applications, with some exceptions.
As most, if not all, Educational documents from India are issued in English, IRCC generally accepts regular copies of your degree certificates and marksheets for the purpose of immigration.
Language testing is an important requirement for immigrating to Canada. Applicants are required to show that their language skills are high enough to complete their program for study permit applications (Academic version). General versions of IELTS are required for work permits to show that you have the language skills needed to perform the work. Lastly, most Immigration applications for permanent residence required General IELTS exams.
Can applicants immigrate without a job offer?
Express Entry is the best program in this instance.
This program allows applicants who seek residency to immigrate to Canada and fill positions where there is a lack of available skilled workers, without having to have a job offer.
I will note that this program is quite competitive, and generally, we like to see points in the mid to high 400s in order to work with a client, anything lower than that, we often recommend coming to Canada temporarily first.
The Government of Canada has eased their travel restrictions for India.
Travellers who meet the necessary requirements are able to travel to Canada.
If you are fully vaccinated with a Government of Canada-accepted vaccine at least 14 days prior to entering Canada, you will be able to travel to Canada from India. This is also provided that you meet specific entry requirements and if the COVID-19 situation in Canada remains stable and favourable for travel.
Read more about the COVID travel requirements here and find out what you need to qualify for the fully vaccinated traveller exemption.
