Work Permit, Study Permit and Confirmation of Permanent Residence Requests
Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced that Canadian borders will re-open for Temporary Resident and Permanent Resident applicants to confirm their status.
Up until now, candidates in the process of applying for Canadian Permanent Residency could not validate their status at the Canadian border due to travel restrictions and closures as a result of COVID-19.
This practise is commonly referred to as ‘flagpoling’. It’s not only used by applicants for Canadian Permanent Residence but also by individuals seeking to renew study permits and work permits.
Previously, travel for the purpose of collecting immigration documentation was considered non-essential and was prohibited. CBSA has now stated they will allow this.
What This Means for You
Applicants who applied from in Canada for temporary permits, such as a work permit or study permit, that are approved are allowed to validate their permits at the border.
Applicants who applied for out of Canada Permanent Residency will be able to complete their landings at the border.
Those who can apply at the border for certain permits will now be able to do so.
