WHAT IS THE ONTARIO TECH DRAW?
The Ontario Tech Draw is a new Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP) that runs through the Human Capital Priorities Stream. The OINP is a program for foreign workers and students with the necessary skills, experience, and education to apply for Permanent Residence in Ontario.
Previously, the Human Capital Priorities Stream accepted applications for International Graduates (the Masters graduate or PhD graduate stream) and Express Entry (Federal Skilled Worker Program or the Canadian Experience Class. The Ontario Tech Draw is designed to make it easier for businesses in the technology sector to recruit talent from around the world.
ONTARIO TECH DRAW ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
The OINP will search the Express Entry pool to find candidates who may:
have work experience in one of the targeted National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes
To qualify in the Human Capital Priorities Stream, you must decide which of the federal programs you want to be assessed against:
FEDERAL SKILLED WORKER PROGRAM
One year of continuous full-time work experience (obtained within the last 5 years) in a position classified under either NOC 0, A, or B
Managerial jobs (NOC skill level 0)
Professional jobs (NOC skill type A)
Technical jobs and skilled trades (NOC skill type B)
This work experience must have been in the same primary occupation you identified in your Express Entry profile
CANADIAN EXPERIENCE CLASS
One year of Canadian work experience (obtained within the last 3 years) in a position classified under either NOC 0, A, or B
Managerial jobs (NOC skill level 0)
Professional jobs (NOC skill type A)
Technical jobs and skilled trades (NOC skill type B)
This work experience must have been in one (or more) of the occupations identified in your Express Entry profile and must have been gained in Canada while maintaining legal status
Under both programs, you must also meet the remaining requirements:
Education: You must have a Canadian bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree or its equivalent in another country
Language: You must have achieved a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7 or higher in either an English or French language test
Settlement funds: You must have enough money to support yourself and your dependent family members when you settle in Canada
Intention to live in Ontario: The OINP is designed to bring workers to Ontario. As such, you must actually intend to live and work here once you’re granted permanent residence.
Legal status in Canada: If you submit an application inside Canada, you must have legal status.
* If you are assessed against the Federal Skilled Worker Program, you need at least 67 points on the six selection factors.
HOW TO APPLY TO THE ONTARIO TECH DRAW
Check to ensure you meet the eligibility requirements (listed above).
Collect your supporting documents (e.g. job offer, letter of employment, language test results, proof of status, etc.).
Create a profile in the OINP e-filing portal and input the required information.
Complete your application for the Human Capital Priorities Stream.
Pay your fees and submit your application.
After you apply, you must continue to maintain a valid Express Entry profile. If your application is successful, you will receive a Nomination Approval Letter and an OINP Certificate of Nomination.
Once you accept the nomination, you’ll receive an ITA for Permanent Residence in the next round of invitations and you can then submit an application for Permanent Residence.

The Ontario tech draw has held three draws since it opened in July 2019, all of which issued cut-off scores ranging between 435-465 CRS points. The candidates invited to apply have work experience in six technical occupations, which include:
