The Owner-Operator LMIA explained
With the high net worth and investment requirements that are now required with the Federal and Provincial Business programs, entrepreneurs to Canada often finds themselves unable to see a way to launch their business in Canada.
Employment and Social Development Canada has somewhat recently changed their online policy in relation to Owners/Operators. As of 25 August 2016, to qualify as an owner/operator, the foreign national must demonstrate:
a level of controlling interest in the business, e.g. be a sole proprietor or a majority shareholder,
that such temporary entry will result in the creation or retention of employment opportunities for Canadians and permanent residents and/or skills transfer to Canadians and permanent residents; and,
not be able to be dismissed.
No advertising or recruitment is required to apply under this program. The program is available in all Canadian provinces.
