Student Direct Stream Open to Pakistani Students

The Student Direct Stream was formerly available to students in China, India, the Philippines, and Vietnam. As of July 26th, 2019, the Student Direct Stream is now available to eligible Pakistani students as well. Study Permits submitted through the Student Direct Stream received expedited processing. Most SDS applications are processed in 20 days (less than 3 weeks).

Students who apply to the Student Direct Stream must provide more information up-front to allow visa officers to process their applications more efficiently. Some of the information you must supply includes language test results, proof of sufficient funds, medical exams, police certificates, and more.

Changes to Services Offered in Havana, Cuba

In May of this year, the Canadian embassy suspended services for visitor visas, study permits, work permits, and permanent residency interviews in Cuba. On August 1st, 2019, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced further changes to services offered in Havana. The Canadian embassy now offers biometrics collection, passport drop-off and visa pick up.

The embassy is still not taking paper applications for temporary residence, so those interested in applying for a visitor visa, work permit, or study permit should apply online. Those who require a permanent residency interview must also go to a visa office in either the Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, or Mexico City in Mexico.
